What is the difference between a Standard Account and a Prime Account?

Standard Account includes your trading cost in the spread, there is no additional commission. Spreads are slightly wider.

Prime Account offers much tighter spreads, often starting from 0.0 pips, but a fixed commission is charged per trade. This setup gives greater transparency and is preferred by professional traders.

It depends on your trading style:

Prime Account is best for scalpers, day traders, and algorithmic trading due to lower spreads and higher precision.
Standard Account is better for beginners or longer-term traders who prefer simplicity without separate commission fees.

There’s no one-size-fits-all.

For low-cost, high-frequency trading, the Prime Account is ideal.
For simple, all-inclusive pricing, the Standard Account is more convenient.
For direct access to interbank liquidity with no dealing desk, real-time market depth, and lightning-fast execution. Best suited for institutional-style traders and algorithmic systems.
For traders who require swap-free trading under Sharia law, the Islamic Account is ideal.
For traders who prefer to micro-lot trading, strategy testing, or low-risk exposure with real money, the Cent Account is ideal.

Yes, Fortrader charges commissions depending on the account type:

  • Standard Account: Charges no commission.
  • Prime Account: Commission applies — $3.50 per side per lot (total $7 round turn).
  • ECN Account : Lower commission — $1 per side per lot (total $2 round turn).

For the most accurate and detailed breakdown, please refer to our Spread & Costs page.

While Fortrader Standard Account is beginner-friendly, it does come with certain limitations:

  • Spreads are typically higher compared to Prime or ECN accounts, which can affect profitability especially for short-term traders.
  • Wider spreads and slower execution in high volatility conditions may impact scalping and high-frequency strategies.

The best trading account type is the one that aligns with your trading goals, budget, and style. Always consider factors like spread size, commission, execution speed, and platform features before making a choice. For full account type details, visit to Fortrader Account Types.
